Arsenal confirmed on Thursday morning that Martin Odegaard has won their Player of the Month award for April, after picking up 68% of the fan vote.

Odegaard had been one of Arsenal’s most overlooked players for the Player of the Month award, receiving multiple nominations without winning it – despite winning the Premier League award for November/December.

With 15 goals and seven assists this season, it would have been rather wild for the midfielder to never win a single monthly award from the Arsenal fans.

Odegaard provided three of his best goal contributions of the season in April, turning home a lovely volley against West Ham, curling home a long-range effort against Southampton, and providing a beautiful assist for Granit Xhaka against Leeds.

No Arsenal player was perfect in a disappointing April, but Odegaard certainly had his moments.

The only negative about Odegaard winning the award is that it means Gabriel Martinelli is going to miss out.

Martinelli has been the other underappreciated member of the side, despite 15 goals and five assists of his own this season. The Brazilian finished second in the April voting, but unfortunately, his injury means he’s now missed his chance to win one.

As for Odegaard, it’s nice to see his season recognised at last.
