Martin Odegaard has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for November and December, Arsenal have confirmed.
Arsenal have now officially confirmed that Martin Odegaard has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for November and December, following leaks that he would win it on Thursday.
“It feels great,” Odegaard said. “I’ve said a lot of times this team has a lot of young, hungry players and we play so well with each other, so it’s just a pleasure to be here and to be part of what we’re doing now.
“It’s a pleasure to play with them and show my qualities so I’m very happy to get this award.”
Odegaard received the award ahead of Arsenal teammate Bukayo Saka, as well as other nominees Marcus Rashford, Erling Haaland, Casemiro, Ben Mee, Palhinha, and Kieran Trippier.
With the World Cup interruption, the Premier League decided to combine their usual monthly awards for November and December into one set of awards for both months.
As a result, Arsenal’s wins over Chelsea, Wolves, West Ham United, and Brighton were all included in the decision-making process.
In November, Arsenal kept a couple of clean sheets in tricky away games against Chelsea and Wolves, with Saka setting up Gabriel Magalhaes’ goal at Stamford Bridge, before Odegaard scored a brace at Molineux.
Then, on football’s return in December, the Gunners kicked things back off with a 3-1 win over West Ham, followed by a 4-2 victory away to Brighton.
Odegaard scored three and assisted three in those fixtures – the most of any player in the league across the four-game period.
Mikel Arteta was also up for Premier League Manager of the Month, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll lift that award.
