Arsenal’s latest contract offer to Reiss Nelson was a four-year deal with an option for a fifth, but he may already have rejected it.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal’s new proposal to Reiss Nelson was a long-term deal valid until June 2027, with an option to extend to 2028.

Romano adds that it’s now up to the player, with English, Italian, and French clubs approaching him over a free transfer move.

Arsenal are clearly showing their long-term commitment to Nelson, which must be a positive as the player considers his options.

But reports on social media suggest Nelson may have already rejected the offer.

After correctly revealing Aaron Ramsdale’s new deal had been signed last week, Twitter user @teamnewsandtix claims Nelson rejected a contract offer in the last few days. Though it’s not clear whether that was the same offer Romano is referring to.

The same source adds that the Italian club interested in Nelson is AC Milan.

Arsenal have made Nelson at least three contract offers so far, as they try to tie him down before his deal expires this summer.

James Benge initially broke the news of Arsenal’s third contract offer to Nelson, but added that the 23-year-old’s current cameo role in the Arsenal squad reportedly may not appeal to him.

Brighton are among the clubs interested in picking him up on a free transfer from England, and Ligue 1 club Nice were also mentioned as a possible destination.

Nelson has made 17 appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

But his opportunities to start have been very limited, featuring in the starting lineup on just five occasions, none of which were in the Premier League.

That hasn’t been entirely Mikel Arteta’s fault, with a couple of injuries keeping Nelson on the sidelines for more than three months of the season.

But even when he’s been available, Nelson clearly hasn’t been the first-choice pick ahead of Gabriel Martinelli.
