Arsenal are looking at Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo as potential midfield signings behind priority target Declan Rice.
Sami Mokbel reports for the Daily Mail that Declan Rice remains Arsenal’s top-priority target for the summer transfer window. But West Ham United are currently looking for £100m, which could prove to be a stumbling block.
It’s possible Arsenal could turn to other targets, and Mokbel reports that Southampton’s Romeo Lavia and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo are also of interest.
Lavia’s situation is of particular interest, given the high likelihood of Southampton’s relegation.
The Saints sit six points behind 17th place with just four games remaining, and matches against top-half sides Fulham, Brighton, and Liverpool still to come.
If they fail to win their relegation scrap with Nottingham Forest on Monday, you’d imagine that will guarantee the drop.
Lavia joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer, with a £40m buyback clause in his contract.
However, that clause is only active from the summer of 2024, so this summer represents an opportunity for another club to take advantage.
As for Caicedo, we know Arsenal made their £70m move for the Brighton midfielder in the winter window, and at the time they were reportedly hoping to sign both Caicedo in January and Rice in the summer.
The suggestion now is that they may only be looking to sign one or the other, but clearly, Caicedo is someone Arsenal rate highly.
