Joao Cancelo is unlikely to stay at Bayern Munich or return to Manchester City this summer, amid interest from Arsenal.

Sport1 reporter Kerry Hau claims that the current belief is that Joao Cancelo is not going to remain at Bayern Munich beyond his loan spell this season.

The club have been impressed with the player’s performances, but they’re prioritising other positions in the summer window, so Cancelo’s price is prohibitive. The player himself is also yet to clearly signal that he wants to stay.

But Hau reports that Cancelo is also unlikely to return to Manchester City, his parent club. Arsenal and Barcelona are interested, with Real Madrid also monitoring his situation.

This follows similar reports from England, with The Telegraph claiming Arsenal are keen on Cancelo this summer, though they fear City may not be willing to sell to them again.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen in the left-back position, but Cancelo is still under contract at City until 2027.

His alleged fall-out with Pep Guardiola in January makes it hard to see them hanging onto him, yet City could still look to sell him elsewhere.

On the other hand, the Evening Standard write that in the current economic climate, City may have to accept that the Premier League remains the best market for selling.

All of City’s major sales last summer were within the Premier League, selling Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal and Raheem Sterling to Chelsea. You simply won’t get the same kinds of fees in mainland Europe.

Cancelo has scored three goals and assisted 10 in 44 appearances this season, the same goal contribution tallies that he hit in the previous campaign with City in the Premier League.

He certainly adds a lot to any team going forward, and Arsenal may be on the lookout for a left-back given Kieran Tierney’s uncertain situation.
