Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen is emerging as a key target for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side this summer, according to a report.
Sami Mokbel reports for the Daily Mail that Arsenal are willing to spend big to close the gap on Manchester City this summer, and Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby is one of their key targets.
Mikel Arteta is reportedly looking to add a centre-back, two new midfielders, and a versatile attacker if possible, and Diaby is the primary target in forward areas.
The Mail claim Diaby is of serious interest to Arsenal, though he’s likely to cost in excess of £50m and the Gunners will face competition from Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Real Madrid.
Arsenal are also considering a free transfer move for Wilfried Zaha, but they’re only likely to pursue that avenue once a move for Diaby is off the table.
Newcastle United could cause Arsenal the biggest problems in their pursuit of Diaby, as reports in recent months have suggested they’re also very keen on the winger.
The Northern Echo claimed in March that Newcastle were lining up a potential club-record summer move for the player.
That same month, Christian Falk reported that Arsenal were also interested in Diaby, and the player’s agents were in contact with the Gunners.
And in January, Patrick Berger of German outlet SPORT1 reported that Arsenal looking at Diaby after the collapse of their deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk. It didn’t happen then, but perhaps it might this summer.
Diaby is under contract until 2025, and he has 14 goals and 10 assists this season, bringing him to 49 goals and 47 assists in 166 games for Bayer Leverkusen overall.
The 23-year-old is also a France international, and he can play on either wing.
