Reece James and Mason Mount are set to miss Chelsea’s visit to Arsenal next week, with both ruled out for much of the rest of the season.

In Arsenal’s final big-six clash of the season, they’re set to host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium next Tuesday at 20:00 BST.

Despite Chelsea’s recent struggles and their position at 11th in the Premier League table, it’s still unlikely to be a walkover for Arsenal, given Chelsea’s added motivation of a London derby and the chance to deny their rivals a trophy.

But Arsenal have received a boost ahead of the game, with Chelsea suffering a couple of key injury blows.

Reece James has been a key player for Chelsea when available, with his injury absences a significant factor in their struggles for consistent results.

Frank Lampard has now confirmed that James will miss the rest of the season, and Mount may have played his final game of the campaign as well.

“Reece James will be unavailable for the rest of the season, Mason Mount the same,” Lampard said.

“Reece had a hamstring injury in the midweek game. He got through it but then had a scan and he’s out.

“Mason has been carrying a pelvic injury for a while. It predates myself (returning to Chelsea) and he has been trying, typically. But he will have minor surgery, then a four-week recovery.

“He [Mount] might make the last match but that’s unlikely, which is obviously disappointing for us.”

Mount’s absence for the Arsenal game is likely to be less of a shock to Chelsea, who haven’t been using him particularly regularly over the last couple of months anyway.

The midfielder’s current injury is the same one that ruled him out of all of Chelsea’s games in March, and he’d only made a few cameo appearances since then.

But it’s still noteworthy, particularly given the recent transfer links between Arsenal and Mount. He won’t have the chance to play for a move like some others in recent games.

Chelsea have a huge squad, so there’s no doubt they’ll have plenty of options available to step in against Arsenal.
