Arsenal may opt to send Albert Sambi Lokonga out on loan again next season, but they’ll only make a decision at the end of the campaign.
Fabrizio Romano reports for CaughtOffside that Arsenal trust in Albert Sambi Lokonga’s potential, but they want him to play regularly in the short term.
As a result, the Gunners may consider another loan move for the midfielder this summer. But Romano writes that this is something they’ll clarify with the player and his agent in June, not now.
Lokonga has played nine times for Palace since his January loan, making six starts.
Most recently, he started their game against Wolves on Tuesday, though that was just his first start since Roy Hodgson took over. The departure of Patrick Vieira certainly disrupted the 23-year-old’s spell at Selhurst Park.
The biggest medium-term problem for Lokonga is that Arsenal are targeting midfield signings in the summer transfer window.
With his spell at Palace failing to particularly inspire, Lokonga is unlikely to replace either the current Arsenal starters or their summer transfer alternatives.
Another loan may therefore be the smart move, giving him a chance to get a full year of games under his belt. If he does well, that could then lead to reintegration at Arsenal, or a good transfer elsewhere.
Palace have five more games over the next month, and they’re likely already safe from any real threat of relegation.
In order to get the best possible loan move in the summer, it would be ideal if Lokonga could do his best to catch the eye in these final fixtures.
