Patrick Vieira parted ways with Crystal Palace just days before the south London side were set to face Arsenal, following a poor run of recent results.

Palace had gone 12 games without a win, though there were mitigating factors.

Vieira’s side had faced many of the best teams in the Premier League during that period, with an easier run coming up, and they were still only 12th in the league.

Arsenal loanee Albert Sambi Lokonga clearly didn’t feel he was being mismanaged, posting on Instagram to say: “Thank you for giving me back the smile during this short period of time. See you soon, coach!”

Whilst a nice farewell message to Vieira, the wording of the post is probably ill-advised, given it carries the suggestion that Lokonga was unhappy at his parent club Arsenal.

But Lokonga can’t really help himself when it comes to comments in the media, having previously talked himself out of a spot in the Belgian national team.

Then there was the infamous All-Or-Nothing clip where Eddie Nketiah told Lokonga off for feeling sorry for himself over playing time.

Though it wasn’t a serious confrontation and mostly just seemed like a bit of banter, that moment has helped to feed into the narrative that Lokonga is easily unsettled, a narrative the player is now unwittingly helping to propagate.

There won’t be a reunion for Lokonga and Arsenal this weekend, with the player unable to face his parent club with Crystal Palace.

That’s good news for the Gunners, as the 23-year-old has made a strong start to life with his loan club. He’ll hope he can come straight back into the team under new management when Palace face Leicester City on April 1st.
