Arsenal have faced a series of off-pitch challenges this week. From forward Reiss Nelson’s impending criminal trial over a dog attack to the loss of their top scout Eddie Black to Newcastle United, the club has been grappling with several issues.

Additionally, Swiss captain and Arsenal midfielder Lia Wälti announced an indefinite break from football due to personal reasons and mental struggles.

Reiss Nelson criminal trial

Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson is set to face a criminal trial in September over a dog attack that left a masseur injured.

The incident occurred in 2020 when Nelson’s dog, believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, allegedly attacked massage therapist Saeid Motaali at the player’s home.

Nelson has denied the charge and has been granted unconditional bail before his trial on September 4, 2023.

Top scout joins Newcastle United

Arsenal have lost top scout Eddie Black to Newcastle United, as the Magpies aim to enhance their recruitment efforts.

Black, previously responsible for identifying emerging talent in the North of England and Scotland for Arsenal, now takes on the role of Academy Lead Scout at Newcastle.

During his time at the Emirates Stadium, Black contributed significantly to Arsenal’s talent pool.

Under Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, Newcastle are revamping their recruitment strategy, with plans to add more staff, including international scouts and a Head of Emerging Talent.

Upon joining Newcastle, Eddie Black expressed his gratitude to Arsenal and excitement for his new position.

Lia Wälti takes indefinite break from football

Lia Wälti has announced an indefinite break from football due to personal reasons and mental challenges.

In an Instagram post, Wälti revealed that recent months had been mentally exhausting for her, and she will now focus on her wellbeing.

The 29-year-old is the captain of the Swiss national team, which will participate in the Football World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in just over three months.
