Eduardo Camavinga’s agent Jonathan Barnett has dismissed rumours of a January Arsenal move for his client, claiming it was “all rubbish”.

Back in January, reports suggested Arsenal were interested in a winter loan deal for Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

The Gunners were undoubtedly after a midfielder, with reports that they investigated a deal for Declan Rice and made multiple bids for Moises Caicedo, before eventually signing Jorginho.

Yet when it comes to Camavinga, the player’s agent Jonathan Barnett claims there was nothing to the media speculation.

“That was rubbish, it is something that was not going to happen,” Barnett said. “He has never thought about playing for another team and Real Madrid would not have let him leave.

“He is going to be one of the stars of Real Madrid in the future, so why would he leave? It was all rubbish.”

This isn’t the first time Barnett has spoken out against claims that Arsenal and others might be able to sign his client.

“There’s no truth (in the Arsenal and Chelsea loan links),” Barnett said in January. “Of course, every club in the world would want him, but he’s very happy in Real Madrid and Real Madrid are very happy with Camavinga.”

So it proved, with the media links between Arsenal and Camavinga never coming to anything, and the player remaining in Madrid for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old has now made 47 appearances for Real this season.

He’s had to accept some changes to his position, occasionally playing at left-back instead of his preferred midfield role, but a player with 2,700 minutes by mid-April at a top club like Real Madrid can hardly complain about game-time.

All in all, it seems a move was never on in January, and remains hugely improbable this summer.
