  • Arsenal are targeting Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow for a potential bargain €15m deal.
  • Frankfurt are open to letting Sow leave the club this summer to avoid losing him for free when his contract expires in 2024.
  • Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta aims to strengthen the team’s midfield, providing depth alongside Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal are reportedly targeting Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow in a bid to bolster their midfield options.

According to reports, the Gunners could secure the Swiss international for a bargain €15m, thanks to the time left on his contract which expires in 2024.

Frankfurt are said to be open to letting Sow leave the club this summer to avoid losing him for free when his contract ends. The 26-year-old is reportedly seeking a new challenge, and Arsenal appears to be the ‘ideal destination’ for the talented midfielder.

Frankfurt open to Sow departure

Despite having a €35m release clause, Sow could be available for just €15m due to his expiring contract, placing Arsenal in a strong position to secure the deal.

Last year, Nottingham Forest attempted to sign Sow, but the player chose to remain with Eintracht Frankfurt to play in the Champions League.

Sow’s agent, Jose Nogueira Rodriguez, recently hinted at a possible move for his client in the summer of 2023, provided a suitable offer is made for both the player and the club.

Sow has impressed at Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring four goals in 39 appearances across all competitions, playing in both defensive and central midfield roles.

Arsenal’s interest in Sow comes as manager Mikel Arteta seeks to strengthen his midfield options, providing depth and consistency alongside Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka.

Sow, who admires Xhaka as a role model and leader, could adapt well to Arteta’s style of play, thanks to his physicality, mobility, and ability to make an impact in midfield.

Arsenal have been linked to various midfield targets in recent months, with Sow being the latest name to emerge as a potential signing.

The Gunners are reportedly preparing an initial offer of £13 million to test Eintracht Frankfurt’s resolve.

The Premier League has also long been an attractive option for Sow, who stated in 2021, “The Premier League is the most attractive league in my opinion. The best players compete there. I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Premier League.”

While no official statements have been made regarding Sow’s potential transfer, his skill set could complement the current Arsenal lineup. However, it remains to be seen if he will be the midfielder the Gunners ultimately bring in.
