Arsenal-linked forward Elye Wahi would prefer a move to another Ligue 1 club over a move abroad, according to the player himself.

While speaking to France Bleu Herault this week, Montpellier forward Elye Wahi was asked about his preferred transfer destination.

“Ligue 1,” Wahi responded (via GFFN). “Why not? I have always said that I don’t want to skip stages and I want to go step by step.

“We’ll see what is offered, but as I’ve always said, I’m at Montpellier and I’m very happy here. We’ll see where the wind takes me.”

Telefoot reported in February that Arsenal are one of the clubs dreaming of a move for Wahi ahead of the summer transfer window.

That followed claims from FootMercato, who reported that Wahi is attracting the interest of several clubs from France and abroad, with Arsenal standing out among them.

FootMercato wrote that Arsenal had been following Wahi for several months, and their attention recently intensified.

At the time, they suggested a summer exit was more than a possibility for the 20-year-old.

The striker is making his breakthrough at a very young age, becoming just the second player in the last 40 years to score 20 goals in Ligue 1 before turning 20.

The first was Kylian Mbappe, who did it by the age of 18 and 10 months.

As well as playing for Montpellier, Wahi is a France u21 international, scoring once in 76 minutes for the side.

But his 10 goals in 23 Ligue 1 games this season are what’s catching the eye at the moment.

This isn’t the first time Arsenal have been linked with Wahi, with rumours connecting the two since early 2021.
