Arsenal have shown strong interest in 18-year-old recent Montpellier debutant Elye Wahi, according to reports in France.

French journalist Cedric Drouet reports that Elye Wahi is attracting the interest of some big clubs, naming Arsenal as a side that have “shown strong interest” in the teenager.

Wahi made his debut for Montpellier in December, coming off the bench against FC Metz. In his six subsequent substitute appearances in Ligue 1 between then and mid-February, he scored three goals. Roughly a goal per hour of football.

That form earned Wahi a first start in the Coupe De France on February 10th, and a full Ligue 1 debut on February 21st. Unfortunately, it also won him a contract extension with his current club.

Montpellier recently announced the striker’s new deal, prolonging his previous contract which reportedly expired in 2022. So any hope of tempting the youngster away on the cheap may have disappeared.

Arsenal may well be on the lookout for a striker this summer, with Eddie Nketiah, Alexandre Lacazette, and Folarin Balogun all facing exit uncertainty. Wahi can also play on the left, so he may fit the bill if Montpellier’s demands aren’t too unreasonable.
