Bukayo Saka verbally accepted a new contract at Arsenal weeks ago, and it’s now just a matter of sorting out the details and signing it.

Fabrizio Romano reports for CaughtOffside that Bukayo Saka’s camp and Arsenal reached a verbal agreement over a new contract weeks ago.

Saka has accepted the terms and the new deal is ready, but the final small details need to be sorted before everyone meets to sign the documents.

Romano adds that the official announcement depends on the Arsenal media team, but he assures the fans that Saka will extend his contract.

Earlier in the season, there was plenty of speculation around Saka’s contract situation, with the winger’s previous deal expiring in the summer of 2024.

But reports from reliable sources in February suggested an agreement is in place for a new deal, even if it might take a while to finalise everything.

With Arsenal at the top of the Premier League and not far away from mathematically securing qualification for next season’s Champions League, things are looking bright at the club.

What better time to sign up one of the team’s top talents for the long term?

Aaron Ramsdale told the media in early March that he’s convinced his teammate will stick around for the long term, whenever his deal gets signed.

“Bukayo is an Arsenal player and will be for a long time,” Ramsdale said. “If he had one week left I wouldn’t be worried about him being here.

“If he had until the end of the season, I would still see him here on the first day of pre-season.

“I’m fairly relaxed with Bukayo, let him crack on with his team and the club sort it out and then we move forward.

“It is obviously not affecting him, that is why he is not rushing into anything and when it does settle we know we have him for longer than we do at the minute.”
