Arsenal are one of the two leading parties with an interest in Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister ahead of this summer, according to a report.
TyC Sports journalist Gaston Edul reports that Chelsea and Arsenal are currently the leading interested parties chasing Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister ahead of the summer, with the midfielder expected to leave his current club in the upcoming window.
This isn’t the first time Edul has reported on Arsenal’s interest, having made similar claims back in December.
The journalist wrote then that Arsenal were only second to Chelsea in terms of the clubs following Mac Allister. He added that it would be difficult for the player to leave Brighton in January, and a summer move was more likely.
So it proved, with Brighton holding onto the Argentina international in the winter window.
Earlier in December, AS Argentina wrote that Atletico Madrid and Arsenal had already shown interest in the player, following his positive performances at the World Cup.
Mac Allister joined Brighton in 2019, making his debut for the Argentina national team not long afterwards. It took him a little while to become a starter with both sides, but he certainly is one now.
The 24-year-old has made 19 starts for Brighton in the Premier League this season, only really dropping out of the team in the immediate aftermath of the World Cup.
Mac Allister started all six games that Argentina won at the tournament, only missing the one match they lost against Saudi Arabia. He scored against Poland in the group stage and provided an assist against France in the final.
It made sense for the player to get a bit of an extended break after that, but he’s now back in action on a regular basis again, scoring and assisting against West Ham at the weekend.
