Arsenal’s Leah Williamson, became the first female footballer to read a story on CBeebies Bedtime Stories.
The 25-year-old, who is also England captain, read the heartening tale Remarkably You by Pat Zietlow Miller, which encourages children to celebrate their individuality and uniqueness.
Making history on CBeebies
Williamson’s appearance on the popular children’s show marks a milestone as she becomes the first female footballer to participate in the CBeebies Bedtime Stories program.
She read the uplifting story on Friday, March 24 on CBeebies and you can still watch it on BBC iPlayer.
Remarkably You: a message of empowerment
Speaking about her involvement with the show, Williamson expressed her excitement, stating, “I had so much fun reading this book for CBeebies Bedtime Stories.”
She also emphasised her passion for empowering the next generation to pursue their dreams, and how Remarkably You carries a similar message.
A lineup of famous faces
The England captain joins a long list of celebrities who have previously read stories on CBeebies Bedtime Stories, including fellow sports stars Harry Kane, Anthony Joshua, and Jessica Ennis-Hill.
Renowned personalities such as Dolly Parton, Tom Hardy, Ryan Reynolds, and Kate Winslet have also graced the program.
Additionally, Williamson has signed a three-book deal with Macmillan Children’s Books. The first non-fiction title, You Have The Power: Find Your Strength And Believe You Can, is scheduled for release on March 30, with two fiction books planned for 2023 and 2024.
