If Arsenal are still interested in signing Moises Caicedo in the summer window, he just got a lot more expensive with the midfielder signing a new long-term deal with Brighton.

Moises Caicedo has signed a new long-term contract with Brighton that runs until 2027, with an option for an additional year, in a move that would seem to put an end to Arsenal’s interest in him.

The 21-year-old Ecuadorian international has been a key player in the club’s first team since his full Premier League debut in April 2022 in a 2-1 win over Arsenal, helping the team secure their best league position in English football by finishing ninth.

Caicedo joined the club in February 2021 from Independiente del Valle, although he spent the first half of the following season on loan with Belgian side Beerschot. He has made 29 Premier League appearances for the Seagulls, winning 15 and losing only seven.

Back in February, Caicedo’s agent, Manuel Sierra, expressed his disappointment at Brighton for blocking the midfielder’s move to Arsenal.

Sierra said that Brighton had denied Caicedo the “dream of his whole life” by rejecting two bids from the Gunners.

Caicedo attempted to force a move to Arsenal with a statement on Instagram, which Sierra helped draft.

After the failed transfer, Caicedo was initially told to stay away from training but has now, clearly, been forgiven.

Not long after Sierra said that Brighton had denied his client a ‘dream move’, Brighton deputy chairman Paul Barber said that they would not have sold Caicedo to Arsenal for any amount of money in the January transfer window.

He added that Caicedo is a “critical player” for Brighton, and even if Arsenal had offered more money, the answer would have been the same.

Arsenal had submitted a couple of bids for Caicedo in the final few days of the transfer window, but Brighton immediately turned each offer down.

Barber said that Brighton wanted to finish as high as possible in the Premier League and believed they can do even better than their ninth-place finish in the past.
