The former youth coach of Ukrainian winger, Mykhailo Mudryk, believes that the 22-year-old would have been a better fit for Arsenal than Chelsea.

Andres Carrasco, who coached Mykhailo Mudryk at Shakhtar Donetsk, says that Arsenal’s style of play would have been better suited to Mudryk’s strengths compared to Chelsea.

Arsenal had been tracking Mudryk for months and were close to securing his signature before Chelsea swooped in and signed him in a £88 million deal. Mikel Arteta’s side turned to Leandro Trossard to strengthen their squad as they aim to win their first Premier League title in 19 years.

After coming off the bench in a 0-0 draw against Liverpool, the Ukrainian winger used his pace to add much-needed potency to the Chelsea attack, although he has yet to register a goal, assist or create a chance.

He has had one shot, however.

“This is a club that has been changing recently,” Carrasco said of Chelsea in an interview with Tribuna. “But it is good for Mudryk to be in a club that always expects maximum results.

“Now, he needs to go through a period of adaptation. And only time will tell if it was the right decision for him or not.

“Today, Arsenal, with its style of play, could be more suitable for Mudryk, who successfully uses dribbling and plays one-on-one. It would be better for him, in my opinion.”

Mudryk made his first start for Chelsea in Friday’s west London derby against Fulham that ended 0-0.

He was taken off at the break having collected the lowest player rating for a Chelsea player in the game. In total, he had 19 touches, only three of which went into the final third.

Mudryk also finished the game with no shots, no chances created, and just 69% of his passes completed.

Still, least he has that eight-and-a-half-year contract.

Despite Arsenal’s defeat at Everton on Saturday, they are still 20 points ahead of Graham Potter’s side.
