Arsenal academy striker Khayon Edwards is hoping to return to competitive action by the end of the month, after recovering from injury.

Arsenal’s Khayon Edwards has been out injured since November, when he was stretchered off the pitch with an apparent ankle injury.

Edwards then underwent surgery on the problem that month, and he’s been out of action ever since.

The 19-year-old is now back running on the grass again as he steps up his recovery, and Daily Cannon understand that he should be back playing by the end of the month, if not sooner – if all goes well.

Excluding tonight’s game against Jong PSV, which will come too soon, the Arsenal u21s have three further fixtures this month:

  • February 13th, 13:00 GMT: Wolves u21s vs Arsenal u21s
  • February 17th, 19:00 GMT: Arsenal u21s vs West Ham United u21s
  • February 24th, 19:00 GMT: Chelsea u21s vs Arsenal u21s

It would be a big boost for Arsenal to have Edwards back in the squad for that Chelsea game, with the two teams competing towards the top of the Premier League 2 table.

Edwards already scored against Chelsea in a home win over the side earlier in the campaign.

Before his injury, Edwards had three goals and one assist in his five PL2 starts.

He’d even earned a few first-team call-ups, including making the bench against Bodo/Glimt and PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League group stage.

With Billy Vigar and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji going on loan in January, the u21s are short of options up front at the moment. Edwards’ return will certainly help on that front.
