The Athletic report that Strum Graz are in talks with Arsenal over loaning Arthur Okonkwo for the second half of the season.

Okonkwo is currently on loan with Crewe Alexandra, but Arsenal have an option to end that spell early, and they could take it up to send the goalkeeper to Austria instead.

This update confirms rumours over the last couple of days of Sturm Graz’s interest in Okonkwo, with Arsenal Youth reporting that they were after him.

That report added that it hasn’t yet been officially confirmed whether Okonkwo has been recalled from Crewe.

Up until now, Okonkwo hasn’t missed a minute of league action since he joined the League Two club on loan.

Sturm Graz are second in the Austrian Bundesliga, and they return to competitive action in February, after their winter break.

Playing against AFC Wimbledon last Saturday, Okonkwo kept his 10th clean sheet of the loan – nine in League Two, the other in the FA Cup.

Of Okonkwo’s 10 clean sheets, all but one of them have come either in 0-0 draws or 1-0 wins. So on nine separate occasions, his clean sheet has either earned Crewe a point, all three points, or progression to the next round.

The Real EFL wrote: “Arthur has set League Two alight with back-to-back penalty saves and multiple game-changing saves. He has transformed Crewe adding some stability to their back line.”
