Arsenal Youth report that Austrian club Sturm Graz are interested in a loan move for young Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who has spent the last few months with Crewe Alexandra in League Two.

Though the report adds that it hasn’t been officially confirmed whether Okonkwo has been recalled from Crewe, there are some rumours on social media that he may already have said his goodbyes at the club.

We’ll get some sort of update on that on Saturday, as Crewe are set to play away to Mansfield Town.

Up until now, Okonkwo hasn’t missed a minute of league action since he joined Crewe on loan.

So whilst his inclusion in the fixture wouldn’t necessarily rule out a move, if he’s not involved, it’s probably safe to assume the reason why.

Sturm Graz are second in the Austrian Bundesliga, and they return to competitive action in February, after their winter break.

Playing against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, Okonkwo kept his 10th clean sheet of the loan – nine in League Two, the other in the FA Cup.

Of Okonkwo’s 10 clean sheets, all but one of them have come either in 0-0 draws or 1-0 wins. So on nine separate occasions, his clean sheet has either earned Crewe a point, all three points, or progression to the next round.

Josh Green wrote for The Real EFL: “Arthur has set League Two alight with back-to-back penalty saves and multiple game-changing saves. He has transformed Crewe adding some stability to their back line.”

Green added that he believes Crewe would be even lower than 17th in the table without Okonkwo’s performances.

Okonkwo wouldn’t be the first player recalled and re-loaned by Arsenal this month, with Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Miguel Azeez already undergoing the same treatment.
