Former Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson enjoyed waking up to a north London derby win at the weekend, and he believes the Gunners can win the league.

Currently playing his football over in Australia with the Newcastle Jets, Carl Jenkinson was unable to watch the weekend’s north London derby as it took place at 3:30am in New South Wales.

But the former Arsenal defender was keeping an eye on the result, and he was clearly pleased with what he saw.

“I actually strangely woke up at half-time of the game, and first thing I did was just type ‘Arsenal’ into Google, [to] see what the score is,” Jenkinson said.

“And I saw it was 2-0 and I was like, ‘here we go’. Fell back to sleep. And obviously first thing you do when you wake up, check the score again. I saw it finished 2-0, so I was buzzing.”

The question now is whether Arsenal can maintain this momentum as we approach the second half of the Premier League campaign.

Though the Gunners are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, there’s still a long way to go to secure that position.

Mikel Arteta’s side will only reach the halfway point after this weekend’s game against Manchester United, with another 19 games to play after that.

But on the possibility of Arsenal winning the league, Jenkinson seemed optimistic.

“I mean, we ain’t had a better chance for a long, long time, to be honest,” Jenkinson said.

“And the way that we’re playing, and just from the outset, the spirit that is around the club at the minute, not only just the players, but the connection with the fans and everything…everything feels right.

“I don’t know what it feels like back home, but I feel like it’s a real positive feeling around the club and obviously there’s a reason why, because we’re playing so well.

“So, of course, we can do it!”
