David Ornstein reports that Arsenal have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Jorginho on deadline day, with the Gunners paying £12m for the Italian international.

Jorginho is set to sign a contract to 2024, with the option to extend by a further year and personal terms already in place.

The player is now expected at the Arsenal training ground to undergo a medical and complete his deadline-day move.

Sam Dean of The Telegraph reports that the deal is an initial £10m fee, with a further £2m in potential add-ons.

Simon Collings was the first to break the news of a £12m fee and a one-and-a-half-year deal with an option to extend, and Fabrizio Romano had previously confirmed that Jorginho had already agreed to join Arsenal.

Per Romano and Ornstein, Mikel Arteta is reportedly a big fan of the player, which is unsurprising given Arsenal’s previous attempt to sign him from Chelsea.

Charles Watts wrote just before 9:30am that Jorginho had been given permission to travel to Arsenal to finalise the move.

There’s obviously now a lot of time pressure on the deal, with Tuesday’s 11pm deadline fast approaching.

The Daily Mail report that Arsenal had also considered Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans and Everton’s Amadou Onana as potential alternatives to the Moises Caicedo deal which now looks dead in the water – at least in January.

Jorginho had made 25 appearances for Chelsea this season, including captaining the side on a number of occasions.

But with Chelsea’s spending spree over the last 12 months, the 31-year-old was finding his position increasingly under threat.

He’ll now join Arsenal to try and help Arteta’s side in the title race and the Europa League knockout rounds.
