Tariq Panja reports that Shakhtar Donetsk’s representatives were in the English capital this week, with talks ongoing with at least four clubs for Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Panja claims there’s no sign of an imminent breakthrough and talks could drag on beyond the January window.

Speaking to the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano confirmed Arsenal are in contact with Mudryk’s camp, and he believes the Gunners will get that move in 2023.

Meanwhile, David Ornstein tells The Athletic Football Podcast that the Kroenke family are backing Edu and Mikel Arteta in the January market to try and kick on with their Premier League challenge.

Ornstein had reported that Mudryk is Arsenal’s priority target in January. His sources suggest that there’s a good chance it will happen, though nothing is agreed.

The journalist writes that Arsenal are in touch with both Shakhtar and Mudryk’s camp, and the player is keen on a move to the Premier League and specifically a move to Arsenal.

Though Brentford had a €25m deal in place over the summer, Mudryk’s valuation has certainly risen since then.

Some reports have suggested Shakhtar want as much as €100m, but interested parties believe a lower fee would be deemed acceptable.

Mudryk previously lodged public complaints over talk of a €100m valuation, feeling it would scupper his transfer.

The winger’s agent Oleksiy Alyokhin has suggested that the January window could be the right time for him to leave Shakhtar.

“It can be seen with the naked eye that he outgrew the championship of Ukraine a long time ago and is ready to perform at a more serious level,” Alyokhin said. “He needs to progress.

“And in my opinion, now is the best time for it. I think everyone will benefit from this. Shakhtar, the national team of Ukraine, and the player himself.”

Mudryk has scored 10 goals and assisted eight in 18 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk this season, including five goals and assists in his six Champions League appearances.

The 21-year-old appears to be a top attacking talent, and he would be an exciting addition to Arsenal’s squad.
