Gabriel Martinelli hasn’t signed a contract extension with Arsenal and his situation remains unchanged, despite recent reports that a deal is close.

Raisa Simplicio of Goal Brasil reports that Gabriel Martinelli hasn’t signed a contract extension with Arsenal yet.

A source close to the player informed her that his situation is still the same as before, though the Gunners are looking to extend his deal and up his salary.

The Athletic report that Martinelli’s inclusion with Brazil at the World Cup slowed negotiations somewhat, as Arsenal were keen not to disrupt the player’s focus during the tournament.

But the Gunners reportedly feel that in cases like Martinelli’s, as well as Saka, Saliba, and Ramsdale’s, there is enough goodwill to eventually see negotiations through to a positive conclusion.

The Daily Mail reported this week that Arsenal and Martinelli were close to a deal that would almost triple his salary to around £200,000 per week.

They wrote that discussions are at an advanced stage, and Arsenal hope that an agreement is close.

Yet it seems Martinelli’s side are still playing down those reports, so we may have a way to go yet.

Martinelli currently has a deal lasting to 2024, with an option to extend to 2026.

The 21-year-old is a consistent starter for Arsenal, making the lineup for all 14 Premier League matches this season, scoring five goals and assisting two in those appearances from the left wing.

The Brazilian may also get some minutes at centre-forward in the coming months, with Gabriel Jesus absent and Arsenal lacking genuine alternatives to Eddie Nketiah, but Mikel Arteta has consistently suggested Martinelli is at his best on the left.
