Futbol Total report that Arsenal are interested in the signing of Ferran Torres in the winter window. The Gunners would be willing to offer £43m inclusive of variables for the player in January.

This follows claims from SportBild in December, who wrote that it’s unclear whether Torres will continue at Barcelona, linking the player with a possible move to Arsenal.

The German outlet suggested Mikel Arteta could look to bring Torres in following the injury to Gabriel Jesus.

They’d reportedly be an attractive option to the player, considering his existing relationship with Arteta and Arsenal’s current position in the table.

As per David Ornstein, Mykhaylo Mudryk is Arsenal’s top priority for the January transfer window. But Ornstein has always suggested the Gunners have other options in mind if that deal doesn’t pan out.

There were also reports in September that Arsenal had made a late €30m offer to Barcelona for Torres ahead of the summer transfer deadline, with Xavi convincing the club to reject it.

The Gunners obviously ended up focusing on the signing of a midfielder, namely Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa. But if the rumours were true, they held a significant interest in Torres as well.

Torres can play on the wings, but he’s also capable of filling in at centre-forward, where he’s scored three goals in four appearances this season.

The Spain international recently scored twice in four games at the World Cup, but he’s only started six times in the league for Barcelona since the summer.
