With progression to the next round of qualifiers already secured, the England u17s needed a draw against Israel to ensure they topped their qualification group on Monday.

Arsenal youngsters Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri both started the match, meaning they’d each appeared in all three of England’s group games over this week.

Former Arsenal youth coach Ryan Garry is now in charge of the England u17s, and he gave both players the full 90 minutes on Monday.

England fell behind in the 34th minute, but Lewis-Skelly gave the team the chance to equalise in the 51st, winning a penalty after being brought down by Anas Sarsur. Unfortunately, Nwaneri saw his spot-kick saved.

There was still plenty of time to bag an equaliser after that, however, and substitute Jimmy-Jay Morgan did so in the 83rd minute to help Arsenal top the group.

Lewis-Skelly ended the group stage with a goal and an assist in three games, whilst Nwaneri scored twice in three (two starts).

They’ll now return to Arsenal, with an u18 game away to Manchester United and an u21 game at home to Everton on offer this weekend.
