Playing their second of three group games for the England u17s on Friday, Arsenal youngsters Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly both made the starting lineup to face Georgia.

The game started in electric fashion, with three goals in the first 10 minutes. England took an early lead, Georgia equalised from the penalty spot, before the two Arsenal teenagers combined to make it 2-1.

Nwaneri had already scored in England’s opening group game, and he doubled his individual tally after some nice interplay with Lewis-Skelly, who was awarded the assist.

England took control of the contest after that, scoring a third just before the half-hour mark, and Lewis-Skelly effectively ended the contest with another goal before the break.

Nwaneri ended up coming off in the 84th minute, whilst Lewis-Skelly completed the full 90 of a 6-2 win for England that ensures they’ll progress to the next round of qualifiers.

The England u17s are playing in a four-team group this week to try and qualify for the u17 Euros next summer in Hungary.

This week’s group is only the initial round of qualifying, with the top two teams guaranteed progression to the Elite Round of qualifiers next March, along with the four best third-placed teams from the 13 groups.

All three games will be played in Georgia, with the fixtures as follows:

  • Tuesday, 25th October: Lithuania 1-3 England
  • Friday, 28th October: Georgia 2-6 England
  • Monday, 31st October, 14:00 BST: Israel vs England

With Israel drawing in their game, England now need a point in their final match to secure top spot in the group. A top-two finish is already mathematically certain.
