Potential Arsenal target Facundo Torres may see his stock rise in the coming months, after receiving a call-up for the World Cup.

Uruguay named their squad for the World Cup on Thursday night, with Orlando City’s Facundo Torres making the 26 amid his recent links to Arsenal.

Uruguayan journalist Rodri Vazquez reported earlier this month that Torres has a chance to join the Gunners, suggesting a possible summer move.

Goal’s Charles Watts had previously written that Arsenal scout Toni Lima had set up a meeting between Edu Gaspar and Torres’ representatives over a potential move to provide cover for Bukayo Saka on the right wing – which hints more at a January deal.

Torres’ agent, Edgardo Lasalvia, confirmed to ESPN that a meeting was planned to discuss a potential Premier League move.

Torres is reportedly very keen on the move, but negotiations are still at an early stage, with no deal imminent.

As such, Torres’ inclusion in the Uruguay World Cup squad could have some knock-on effects. If the winger goes on to feature regularly for his country and impresses on the world stage, his value is sure to go up.

Torres caught the eye when he scored for Orlando City against Arsenal in pre-season, cutting inside to finish from outside the box.

Before that game, Torres had played 24 games for Orlando City in 2022, scoring five goals and assisting four. But since then, Torres has played another 16 matches, scoring eight and assisting six.

The forward’s goal contributions per game have certainly improved lately, including three goals and two assists in the US Open Cup semi-final and final to win Orlando the trophy. Perhaps it’s little wonder Uruguay want him involved in Qatar.
