Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar will hold talks with Facundo Torres’ representatives over a potential move this weekend, according to a report.
Goal’s Charles Watts reports that Arsenal scout Toni Lima has set up a meeting between Edu Gaspar and Facundo Torres’ representatives over a potential January move to provide cover for Bukayo Saka on the right wing.
The meeting is scheduled for the weekend, with Torres reportedly very keen on the move. But discussions are still at an early stage, with no deal imminent.
Torres’ agent, Edgardo Lasalvia, has confirmed to ESPN that a meeting is planned to discuss a potential Premier League move. Though, again, Lasalvia confirms nothing is advanced, despite the interest from Arsenal.
Uruguayan journalist Edgardo Buggiano broke the story last Thursday that representatives of Torres will travel to London this week to negotiate a possible move for the Orlando City winger.
Buggiano also highlighted that if the transfer happens, Torres’ former club Penarol are owed 30% of the excess above $8m (£6.92m), if applicable.
Following up on the story in the English media on Monday, Simon Collings reported for the Evening Standard that Arsenal are indeed tracking Torres.
If the name Facundo Torres rings a bell, that might be because he scored for Orlando City against Arsenal in pre-season.
The Gunners ended up winning 3-1, but Torres certainly had his side’s best moment of the match, cutting inside to finish from outside the box.
Before that game, Torres had played 24 games for Orlando City in 2022, scoring five goals and assisting four. Since that game, Torres has played another 16 matches, scoring eight and assisting six.
So the forward’s goal contributions per game have certainly improved lately, including three goals and two assists in the US Open Cup semi-final and final to win Orlando the trophy.
