Arsenal loanee Auston Trusty has made it into the Championship Team of the Month as his manager continues to insist he should be at the World Cup.
The Championship Team of the Month for October was confirmed on Tuesday, with Arsenal loanee Auston Trusty making the lineup after his strong performances for Birmingham City.
Trusty had won the Man of the Match award for his performance against QPR last Friday, scoring an impressive improvised flick in Birmingham’s 2-0 win.
After that game, Birmingham boss John Eustace repeated his recent insistences that Trusty should be at the World Cup in Qatar this month.
“Auston is going to be a top player,” Eustace said. “He certainly deserves to be going to the World Cup. He keeps putting in performances and is getting better and better.”
This is far from the first time the manager has made this statement, having said something similar earlier in October.
“He should be on that plane definitely,” Eustace said then. “It’s definitely not too late.
“I’ve spoken to the US manager and I have told him how well he is doing. It’s important they see that and understand he’s playing in one of the toughest leagues in Europe, week-in, week-out, against top players.
“I think they’ve watched a couple of games on video but I’ve told them to get the scouts out and watch him play. He (Berhalter) should come and watch him himself.”
It’s certainly great to hear a manager so enthused about an Arsenal loanee that he’ll fight his corner for a potential international call-up.
There’s no questioning Trusty’s place in the Birmingham City lineup right now, but call-ups for the United States national team would help him to earn additional experience this year.
Of course, it might also give us an opportunity to see Trusty in action against England, with the US facing England in the group stage. Matt Turner is already very likely to start that game.
