Birmingham City manager John Eustace is adamant that Auston Trusty should be in the USA’s World Cup squad next month.

Arsenal loanee Auston Trusty put in a starring performance for Birmingham City on Saturday, scoring twice and helping them to keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Bristol City.

Speaking after the game, Birmingham boss John Eustance suggested Trusty should be in the USMNT squad travelling to the World Cup in November.

But it wasn’t just a token comment, with Eustace explaining the actions he’d already taken to try and convince US boss Gregg Berhalter to call his player up.

“He should be on that plane definitely,” Eustace said. “It’s definitely not too late.

“I’ve spoken to the US manager and I have told him how well he is doing. It’s important they see that and understand he’s playing in one of the toughest leagues in Europe, week-in, week-out, against top players.

“I think they’ve watched a couple of games on video but I’ve told them to get the scouts out and watch him play. He (Berhalter) should come and watch him himself.”

This isn’t the first time Eustace has put Trusty forward as a candidate for international duty.

“I think he is certainly good enough when you look at the squad they have got there,” Eustace said in September. “I think he should certainly be pushing for that World Cup squad.”

It’s certainly great to hear a manager so enthused about an Arsenal loanee that he’ll fight his corner for a potential international call-up.

There’s no questioning Trusty’s place in the Birmingham City lineup right now, but call-ups for the United States national team would help him to earn additional experience this year.

Of course, it might also give us an opportunity to see Trusty in action against England, with the US facing England in the group stage. Matt Turner is already very likely to start that game.
