Auston Trusty says he’s in regular contact with Arsenal and his goal is to play for the Gunners, a club he describes as the best in the world.

Auston Trusty has been in strong form with Birmingham City on loan from Arsenal this season, quickly winning over the supporters of the Championship club.

But Trusty says his sights are still set on Arsenal, who he believes are currently among the best in the business.

“I’m in contact with them all the time and my mindset is to get to Arsenal and play for Arsenal,” Trusty said. “It’s probably the best club in the world right now and I’m excited for it.

“It’s the perfect spot right now and I’m doing my thing, at an incredible organization in Birmingham. But, obviously, the goal is to play in the Premier League, play at a top team. That’s where it’s at.”

More immediately, Trusty is hoping to play at the World Cup with the United States Men’s National Team, though it may still be a long shot.

Despite his strong club form, Trusty is yet to make his debut for the USMNT, and he’s only appeared in three squads since his first call-up in 2019. But the centre-back is staying hopeful.

“I’ve been in a couple of camps before and been part of the team, part of the gameday squad for three games,” Trusty added. “But my mindset is to be in this World Cup, so that’s the only mindset I have. I’m not looking further than that, just at this World Cup.”

Trusty recently made the Championship Team of the Month for October, as well as winning the Man of the Match award last week for his performance against QPR, scoring an impressive improvised flick.

After that game, Birmingham boss John Eustace repeated his recent insistence that Trusty should be at the World Cup in Qatar this month.

“Auston is going to be a top player,” Eustace said. “He certainly deserves to be going to the World Cup. He keeps putting in performances and is getting better and better.”

There’s no questioning Trusty’s place in the Birmingham City lineup right now, but call-ups for the United States national team would help him to earn additional experience this year.

Of course, it might also give us an opportunity to see Trusty in action against England, with the US facing England in the group stage. Matt Turner is already very likely to start that game.
