Tyreece John-Jules has had to undergo surgery on his hamstring and will be out for the next three-to-four months, according to his loan manager.

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed the bad news that Tyreece John-Jules’ hamstring injury ended up requiring surgery, and he’ll now miss multiple months of action.

“Tyreece has had surgery to repair his hamstring,” McKenna said. “He is going to spend a period of time back at Arsenal for the initial stages of his rehab, which makes sense on a few different levels.

“He will probably join us a few weeks down the line when our medical team and their medical team agree and there is a handover. It is months, rather than weeks, for the injury.

“The injury is approximately a three-to-four-month injury. Of course, you have to see how the recovery period goes.”

Unfortunately, League One aren’t taking a break for the World Cup, unlike the Premier League, so John-Jules won’t be able to use the international break to his advantage in this case.

The 21-year-old had made 21 appearances for Ipswich before his injury, playing a regular role for League One side and helping them to their current position of 2nd in the table.

The striker has suffered a few muscle injuries in the past, so he’ll be well acquainted with the rehabilitation process, but it’s obviously easy to get disheartened by repeated setbacks.

John-Jules had scored for Ipswich in his last appearance against Charlton Athletic, days after giving an interview to the club website.

“I’m enjoying every minute and I’m improving day by day,” John-Jules said then.

“Every time I get on the pitch I’m enjoying it, regardless of if I’m playing down the middle or on the left. I’m just enjoying getting minutes for the Club and helping the team as much as possible.”

We’re still not yet at the midpoint of the season, so hopefully, there’s enough time for John-Jules to make a full recovery and get back out on the pitch to help Ipswich end the campaign with promotion.
