Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna shared the bad news on Saturday that Tyreece John-Jules appears to have suffered a major hamstring injury.

“Tyreece has a hamstring injury and is under specialist review at the moment as to whether it needs surgical repair,” McKenna confirmed. “It’s quite a major tear which is also very disappointing.

“(Along with Dom Ball), it’s two big losses for the group and two players who I feel were primed to start coming into their own in the next few months.

“We go on as a squad. I can’t fault the players one bit for their efforts in training and in games.”

John-Jules had missed Ipswich Town’s two games this week, so it was widely known he had an injury concern, but the club would have been hoping for better news on its severity.

The other disappointing factor is that League One aren’t taking a break for the World Cup, unlike the Premier League.

Ipswich have at least six more fixtures between now and Christmas, so John-Jules won’t be able to use the international break to his advantage in this case.

The striker has suffered a few muscle injuries in the past, so he’ll be well acquainted with the rehabilitation process, but it’s obviously easy to get disheartened by repeated setbacks.

John-Jules had scored for Ipswich in his last appearance against Charlton Athletic, days after giving an interview to the club website.

“I’m enjoying every minute and I’m improving day by day,” John-Jules said then.

“Every time I get on the pitch I’m enjoying it, regardless of if I’m playing down the middle or on the left. I’m just enjoying getting minutes for the Club and helping the team as much as possible.”

We’re still not yet at the midpoint of the season, so hopefully there’s enough time for John-Jules to make a full recovery and get back out on the pitch to help Ipswich end the campaign with promotion.
