Arsenal youngsters Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly played a key role in the England u17s’ opening-day qualifying win over Lithuania on Tuesday.
Both of Arsenal’s England u17 call-ups had a part to play in their win over Lithuania in their opening u17 Euros qualifier on Tuesday.
Myles Lewis-Skelly played the full 90 minutes of the match, starting in midfield for England, whilst Ethan Nwaneri came off the bench in the 78th minute. But Nwaneri made his cameo count, scoring just three minutes after coming on.
That goal secured a 3-1 win for Ryan Garry’s side, putting them joint-top of the group with Israel, who won their game against Georgia 3-1 as well.
The England u17s are playing in a four-team group this week to try and qualify for the u17 Euros next summer in Hungary.
This week’s group is only the initial round of qualifying, with the top two teams guaranteed progression to the Elite Round of qualifiers next March, along with the four best third-placed teams from the 13 groups.
All three games will be played in Georgia, with the fixtures as follows:
- Tuesday, 25th October: Lithuania 1-3 England
- Friday, 28th October, 15:00 BST: Georgia vs England
- Monday, 31st October, 14:00 BST: Israel vs England
While they’re away with England, Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri will miss the Arsenal u18 match against Aston Villa on Saturday and the u21 match against Crystal Palace on Monday.
