Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to miss another match for Arsenal when they host PSV Eindhoven on Thursday, but Gabriel Martinelli’s situation is less clear.
Goal report that Oleksandr Zinchenko will remain absent when PSV Eindhoven visit Arsenal on Thursday night, continuing his struggles with a calf injury and not yet returning to training with the squad.
There’s also some concern around Gabriel Martinelli. The winger has also reportedly had a slight calf concern, and he missed training on Wednesday.
However, Charles Watts reports that Arsenal claim Martinelli is just feeling a bit under the weather. Watts adds that the Brazilian should be okay for the PSV match, but there are no guarantees.
Mikel Arteta obviously won’t want to lose Martinelli ahead of an extremely busy period of fixtures.
The World Cup is exactly a month away now, but Arsenal still have eight games to play before then. All of them will take place in the next three weeks and two days.
There are some big games in that run as well, notably these two fixtures against PSV and a trip to Stamford Bridge in the first week of November.
Martinelli isn’t going to start all of those matches, but the more he’s available for, the better.
Martinelli has six goal contributions in his first 10 games of the Premier League season, including three goals/assists in his three games against the big six. He’s unlucky not to have four, with his goal against Manchester United harshly ruled out.
Arsenal are reportedly keen to extend the 21-year-old’s contract, but for now, the focus will be on getting him fit.
