Leah Williamson will miss Arsenal’s game against Reading on Sunday as Jonas Eidevall says she is expected to be out for ‘several weeks’ with a return unlikely before the next international break in November.

Leah Williamson picked up an injury in training and had to withdraw from the England squad ahead of their friendlies against the US and Czech Republic.

At the recent game against the US at Wembley, Williamson was spotted on crutches but, as no update had been given about her status, we were all left to fear the worst.

With domestic football back this weekend, Arsenal travel to Reading on Sunday for a 6.45pm kick-off that is live on Sky Sports.

And it was to them that Eidevall gave his update.

“Both are foot injuries,” Eidevall said about Williamson and Rafaelle, who we know is out with a fractured metatarsal.

“Both are expected to be out for several weeks.

“[We] can’t put an exact time frame on those until they have seen the consultants here. We need to give that a bit of time so we can have a better prognosis.”

Speaking with Arsenal.com, Eidevall added more but, weirdly, did not give details about Williamson’s injury. He did not think Williamson would be back for the next international break, however, which is scheduled to take place between 7 November and 15 November.

“We expect it to be several weeks, unfortunately,” he said again. “We have to wait for further assessment by the consultants before we can put a more exact time frame on it but at the moment, we don’t think any surgery is needed.”

The news is indeed a blow to Arsenal, especially with their Champions League group game against Lyon coming up fast on 19 October.

Lyon, however, also have their own injury problems and look set to be without Ada Hegerberg.
