Arsenal purchased William Saliba for £27m in 2019 when he was just 18-years-old. Now 21, how much is the defender worth now?

William Saliba has been one of the standout stars of the Premier League 22/23 season.

Finally getting his chance at the club after loans to Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille saw his future called into question, the Frenchman has made himself undroppable.

No wonder he was voted Ligue 1 Young Player of the Season last season.

Saliba’s value on transfermarkt currently stands at £36m but CIES Football Observatory have him valued at ‘up to €60m’ (£52.3m). I doubt either of those figures would convince Arsenal to consider selling him. Perhaps if they were combined, and even then it would likely be declined.

It’s worth noting that while £27m will ultimately seem like a real bargain for Arsenal in the long run, they were only able to convince Saint-Etienne to sell him in the first place by paying far more than twice his £10.8m value at the time.

According to transfermarkt, Saliba is currently the 122nd most valuable footballer in the world, 55th in the Premier League, 4th at Arsenal, 14th amongst French players, 22nd amongst centre-backs and 4th from players born in 2001, an age group topped by Bukayo Saka (£63m) with Gabriel Martinelli joint 4th (£36m).

As things stand, Arsenal are trying to get Saliba to extend his contract with the club.

That will also see his value rise further, along with his wages.
