Arsenal confirmed the contract extension of Gabriel Magalhaes on Friday, with various sources including the BBC reporting that the new deal lasts until 2027.

Gabriel was clearly happy to put pen to paper, admitting the moment was a dream for him.

“I’m very happy to sign this new contract with Arsenal, because it’s such a big club,” Gabriel said. “It’s my dream and today is the best day of my life. I’m so happy to extend my contract here.”

As for why he’s extending, Gabriel praised the Arsenal supporters and suggested he has unfinished business with the Gunners.

“Every game the supporters are pushing the team in the stadium,” Gabriel added. “It’s why I’m so happy to stay here. Arsenal is my home.

“In the future, I want to win games for Arsenal, I want to win trophies with Arsenal and stay here for a long time because it’s my home.”

Gabriel has been vital to Arsenal this season so far, playing more minutes than anyone else in the squad.

Arsenal’s defensive record has been particularly important in their most recent run of wins, and Gabriel has regularly been at the heart of that defence.

The Brazilian is building a strong partnership alongside William Saliba, and at 24 and 21 respectively they could have a long future together in Mikel Arteta’s team.

Perhaps Gabriel’s extension could even help Saliba towards committing too. But for now, it’s just good to have some clarity on Gabriel’s future.
