Mail Online are reporting that The FA have already spoken to Gabriel after match officials from Sunday’s game reported an incident to the governing body.

While it is still not clear what is alleged to have been said, the ruckus that kicked-off after Arsenal were awarded a second half penalty was deemed serious enough that Michael Oliver informed both managers he would be reporting the incident to the FA.

It is believed to involve something that was allegedly said by Jordan Henderson.

The Mail claim that Gabriel is ‘relaxed’ about the whole thing but ‘has complained he heard something on the pitch.’

The FA opened their probe into the incident quickly, confirming on Sunday night that it was already underway, indicating how serious the matter might be.

On Sunday, an FA spokesperson confirmed: “We are aware of an incident that took place during the match between Arsenal and Liverpool. We are in dialogue with the match officials and will review the details of the incident.”

Oliver reportedly interviewed both Gabriel and Henderson after the game and those transcripts were handed over to The FA. The Daily Telegraph report that “One source has subsequently raised the prospect of potentially contrasting interpretations over a phrase that was used.”

Transcripts have been included in Oliver’s report, which is now believed to have been handed to Football Association investigators. Oliver was understood to have asked to speak to the pair to get their versions of what exactly was said during a bust-up between the teams. Representatives for Henderson, Gabriel, Liverpool, Arsenal and the FA are declining to detail in public what was said while evidence is reviewed. However, Gabriel is understood to have immediately complained to Oliver about something he is alleged to have heard. One source has subsequently raised the prospect of potentially contrasting interpretations over a phrase that was used. All parties are said to be cooperating with the FA as it decides whether action should be pursued. The clubs were dutybound to hand over all video footby age, and players who witnessed the row are likely to be interviewed. A furious exchange of words had escalated between the sets of players in the second half of Arsenal’s thrilling 3-2 win. Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp were also spoken to by Oliver following the incident, and it is understood they, too, had another conversation with the referee after the match. The FA and the Professional Game Match Officials Limited said last night they remained in dialogue about the incident. “We are aware of an incident that took place during the match between Arsenal and Liverpool,” the FA said. “We are in dialogue with the match officials and will review the details of the incident.” The flashpoint occurred in the aftermath of Arsenal’s winning penalty, converted by Bukayo Saka 14 minutes from time. Several players squared up to each other amid a lengthy confrontation between Gabriel and Henderson. Oliver then went to the touchline and spoke to both managers to tell them a complaint had been made. Sources confirmed both the two players and the managers again gave their version of events to the referee after the game. Henderson had reportedly been due to do post-match interviews, but was taken off duties. Arteta declined to detail what the referee had told him during his post-match press conference. “It was an incident that happened,” he said. “Whatever happens on that pitch, stays on that pitch.” Henderson will be hoping the issue is resolved in a matter of days rather than weeks, given he is likely to travel to the World Cup next month with England.

According to the report above, Henderson had been expected to do Liverpool’s post-match media duties, but was ‘taken off’.

Speaking after the match, Mikel Arteta said, optimistically, “It was an incident that happened,” he said. “Whatever happens on that pitch, stays on that pitch.”

It should be noted that it is only a probe at present. It is not clear whether or not The FA will open a full investigation into the matter.

In other news from the match, Liverpool’s Luis Diaz will be out of action until after the World Cup with the knee injury he picked up while Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ankle injury will likely see him miss the rest of October.
