Liverpool’s Luis Diaz was seen walking through the mixed zone at Arsenal in a knee brace while using crutches and it has now been confirmed he will be out of action until December following Sunday’s game.

Things did not look good for Liverpool’s Luis Diaz who picked up a knee injury during the first half of Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.

Diaz seemed to pick up the knock in a challenge with Thomas Partey. He was replaced after 42 minutes by Roberto Firmino.

When he left the pitch, he was taken straight to the dressing room.

Speaking to the media after the game, Jurgen Klopp said, “Something with the knee. He will have a scan and then we will know more. I’ve no idea the extent [of the problem].”

The scan took place in Liverpool and it has now been confirmed that Diaz will be out of action until football returns on Boxing Day after the World Cup.

Despite that news, there is reportedly relief at Liverpool who feared his injury could be a lot worse and his layoff even longer than the 10 games he is set to miss.

Surgery is not believed to be required at this point.

There were also concerns about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ankle which was accidentally trod on by Gabriel Martinelli. That will keep him out of both their Champions League game against Rangers on Wednesday and their league game against Manchester City on Sunday, but Liverpool hope to have him back before the end of October.

Barring cup draws, Arsenal are not due to play Liverpool again until 8 April 2023.

Arsenal emerged victorious from what was a hard-fought game on Sunday to return the to the top of the table.

An opener from Gabriel Martinelli, with less than a minute on the clock, was cancelled out after 34 minutes when Darwin Nunez scored.

Arsenal took the lead again deep in injury time in the first half, but Roberto Firmino, who likes a goal against Arsenal, made it 2-2 on the 53rd minute.

Bukayo Saka’s 76th minute penalty, awarded for a foul on Gabriel Jesus, was enough to ensure Arsenal left with all the points and went back to the top of the table as the only side, apparently, who can challenge City.
