Arsenal physio, Simon Murphy, seems set to stay at Arsenal despite reports he had already left for Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest’s head physiotherapist Neil Simms left the club during the summer to take up a role at Southampton as the club’s lead performance physio. That left a vacancy at Forest that they believed they could fill with Arsenal’s Simon Murphy.
Murphy joined Arsenal in July 2021, coming from Leicester where he spent seven-and-a-half years as a physio, most it in a senior role with the first team.
Training Ground Guru reported in July that not only were Forest interested in Murphy but that he had actually joined the club, noting that Murphy was returning to the city where he had completed his degree. This was then picked up by media outlets, particularly in Nottingham.
Now, however, David Ornstein is reporting that “Murphy is likely to remain at the club.”
There is no more detail than that so it’s not clear where the confusion has come from.
Murphy has also previously worked as Head Physiotherapist at Mansfield Town. He also had a part-time position with Derby County’s academy as a physiotherapist when he was first starting out.
At Arsenal, his title is ‘Senior 1st Team Physiotherapist’. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Nottingham and a Master of Science in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the London at Queen Mary University.
