Arsenal may return for Danilo of Palmeiras in January, after the Gunners failed to add a midfielder to their ranks in the summer window.

Speaking to GiveMeSport after the closure of the summer transfer window, Dean Jones suggested Arsenal could be expected to maintain their interest in Danilo of Palmeiras, one of their top targets over the summer.

Arsenal knew Danilo would be difficult to sign in the summer window, but they moved their interest forward following injuries to a couple of senior midfielders in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

The Gunners obviously didn’t manage to complete the signing in the end, but they’re reportedly going to make another go of it in the winter window.

The Evening Standard reported in early September that Arsenal had lodged an enquiry with Palmeiras over a possible deal for Danilo, but the Brazilian club immediately knocked that approach back.

Palmeiras wanted to keep Danilo around for the rest of their Copa Libertadores campaign, though they have since been eliminated at the semi-final stage.

It’s worth mentioning that Danilo isn’t the only player Arsenal have been linked with a return for in the January window. One report suggested the Gunners are also set to go back in for Douglas Luiz, after Aston Villa knocked back their deadline-day offers.

We’ll see how much truth there is to the two claims when the window opens in January.
