The Premier League confirmed on Friday that Mikel Arteta had been named Manager of the Month for August. The award was Arteta’s third, having previously won it last September and in March of this year.

Speaking after being presented with the award, Arteta thanked all those who had helped him to win it, including the Arsenal fans.

“Thank you so much to everybody that has contributed,” Arteta said. “The employees, the staff, the coaches, and especially obviously the players and the fans for their support.

“They are the ones that make this possible. So thank you, and let’s go for another one!”

Arteta beat Antonio Conte, Pep Guardiola, Graham Potter, and Marco Silva to August’s award, which was surely the correct decision.

The Gunners were the only team to win all of their Premier League games in August, with only Manchester City coming close (four wins, one draw).

Arteta’s side didn’t follow up his last Manager of the Month award particularly well, with Arsenal going on a particularly poor run in April.

The team will have to ensure they get a result against Brentford this weekend to avoid being labelled a repeat victim of the Manager of the Month curse.
