Arsenal made a late move for PSG’s Leandro Paredes which was rejected because the defensive midfielder was signing for Juventus.
As we reported on Tuesday evening, Arsenal made an approach for PSG’s 28-year-old defensive midfielder, Leandro Paredes, as they face up to life without Mohamed Elneny for a while.
The move seemed more in hope than expectation as Juventus were rightly confident of sealing a loan for the player, who still has two years on his deal in Paris.
Paredes had his medical in Turin on Wednesday before the loan move was confirmed. The deal comes with an obligation to buy.
Give that it is an obligation rather than an option, I’m inclined to believe it was not Arsenal who were rejected but Arsenal who did the rejecting.
At 28, Paredes does not fit the profile of player Arsenal are looking to bring in. A loan made sense to cover for Elneny without having to commit three years salary to a player who would be over 30 by the end of it.
CM claim Juventus will pay €20m to make the deal permanent should Paredes hit the targets set out in his loan deal.
