Nicolas Pepe got his Nice debut on Sunday and his new manager was not that impressed with what he saw from the Arsenal man.

Nice welcomed Marseille on Sunday in a game that saw six current and former Arsenal players involved to some degree.

Marseille ran out 3-0 winners thanks to yet another goal from Nuno Tavares (his third in four) while Alexis Sanchez grabbed a brace as he looks to get back the scoring touch he lost when he left Arsenal for Manchester United.

Matteo Guendouzi and Sead Kolasinac also lined up for Marseille while Aaron Ramsey came on at half time for Nice.

Although Pepe picked up a 7.3 rating on Fotmob, his manager, Lucien Favre, was not best impressed with what he saw.

“He hasn’t played for a long time in England,” Favre said

“He has done the pre-season with Arsenal but he hasn’t played any matches. He is lacking a bit of rhythm, intensity in his placements, in his pressing as well and in his ball recovery, because everyone has to do that.

“There aren’t any exceptions. If one or two players don’t do the work, the whole team is in trouble.

“Everyone has to do it at the same time, everyone has to defend to recover the ball.”

Against Marseille, Pepe managed six shots while he also created three chances but it seems that his lack of effort in defending is what has caused dissatisfaction, as it no doubt did with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

Pepe did make six recoveries and a clearance whilst also being fouled six times.

To compare, Nuno Tavares, playing for Marseille as a wing-back, made seven recoveries.
