Arsenal are interested in signing the defensive midfielder Sandro Tonali from AC Milan according to a report from Italy.

Sandro Tonali is a 22-year-old defensive midfielder whom Arsenal were tentatively linked with around two years ago.

Now, it seems his name is back on their wishlist.

Currently valued at around £45m and under contract until 2026, it would not be an easy transfer for Arsenal to complete for a number of reasons but the two clubs are reported to have met to discuss the player.

Calciomercato report that if a bid in the region of €55m was to be received, Milan could sell him in order to purchase two players, but they also describe him as a ‘cornerstone’ of Stefano Pioli’s side whom Milan call ‘untransferrable’.

So, mixed messages there that cover all eventualities.

It does seem as if Arsenal are looking to bring in a defensive midfielder if they can for reasons we obviously can’t talk about.

Who that will be and when it will happen, however, is anyone’s guess.

Regardless, I’d be very surprised if it ended up being Tonali.
