With Arsenal closing in on a move for Oleksandr Zinchenko of Manchester City, it’s interesting to note that the Ukrainian was actually a fan of the Gunners before his move to Manchester.

Before Arsenal made their recent move for Zinchenko, CaughtOffside reported that the defender is a boyhood Arsenal fan, and he would’ve rejected any approach from Chelsea this summer on that basis.

Arsenal fans then went into detective mode, finding a picture of the player wearing an Arsenal shirt from a decade ago, in the 2011/12 season.

There was also an unconfirmed screenshot of Zinchenko’s Facebook page doing the rounds, where he’d seemingly updated his cover photo to a picture of Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil in 2014.

Zinchenko didn’t break into senior football until 2015, and he didn’t move to Manchester City until 2016. It’s very possible he’d show support for Arsenal as a fan before that.

Ultimately, Arsenal fans will only be bothered whether the versatile left-back/midfielder is willing to give his all on the pitch.

But it’s nice to have that connection to the club, and hopefully, it will help negotiations over his personal terms to run smoothly.
